Open Doors

I heard a whispered knocking
Calling in the morning
It drew me from my covers
It led me to a door
So patiently I waited
Upon a cold hard floor.
I felt alluring warmth
Rising sun beyond the glass
It reminded me of summers
It made me yearn for more
As my patience slowly ebbed
Like water from the shore.
I caught a muffled pattering
My master's unclad feet
They lumbered through the hallway
It thrilled me at my core
Alas, a patient curs reward
This opening of door.
